Build & Ship

Phase 02 — From plan to production

Build & Ship

Two-week releases of working, tested software that you can click on, until the product is live, adopted and in your hands.

Build & Ship is how the plan becomes software people use. A small team of developers, a designer and a tester works through the plan in two-week releases. Each release ends with a demo on a real environment, not a status report, and you decide what comes next. Hosting, testing and monitoring are set up in the first week, so launching is a routine step rather than a cliff edge. When the product is live, we either keep improving it with you or hand it over properly.

Step by step

Five steps from an agreed plan to software your team runs every day.

1

Set up

Repositories, hosting, automated deployments, monitoring and backups go in first, all under your company's accounts.

2

Release

Every two weeks we finish a slice of the product, demo it to you on a real environment and agree the next priorities together.

3

Check

Automated tests guard money, stock and permissions; we test on real phones and slow networks and review security before each launch.

4

Launch

We go live in stages, often with one team or branch first, migrate data in rehearsed steps and stay close for the first busy days.

5

Hand over or carry on

Your team gets training, documentation and runbooks. Then we keep supporting and improving the product, or step back. Your choice.

Typical length

A first release usually reaches real users within two to three months. Larger products continue in two-week releases for as long as they're useful.

What you
get at the end

Tangible outputs, owned by you, useful the moment the phase closes.

Live software, deployed on infrastructure your company owns

Source code in your repository, with automated tests

Automated deployments with one-click rollback

Monitoring, alerts and tested backups

User guides and technical documentation

Trained users and a support plan, if you want one

This fits when

If any of these sound familiar, this is the phase your project needs first.

01

You have an agreed plan and need a team to deliver it

02

A prototype or MVP needs to become dependable software

03

Your own developers are fully booked and the roadmap keeps growing

04

An old system is slowing the business down and needs replacing

Common questions

Can we start with Build & Ship?

Yes, if you already have a clear plan. We spend the first week reviewing it with you, flag anything that needs deciding, and then start releasing.

How do we follow progress?

Through a demo at the end of every two-week release, a shared board you can see at any time and a test environment where you can try every feature as it's finished.

Who owns the code?

You do, from the first commit. It lives in your repository and runs on your accounts, with nothing licensed from us.

What happens after launch?

You can keep us on a support plan for fixes, updates and improvements, or take the product in-house. Either way, we plan the handover from the start.

Not sure where to begin?

Tell us what you have so far, whether that's an idea, a spreadsheet or a half-built app, and we'll suggest the right starting point.
